Overpacked daybreaks rarely fail because the AD cannot count scenes. They fail because page counts were treated as decoration. A strip that says 2 4/8 pages is not the same workday as four eighth-page pickups,
Prep boards change every afternoon. A scene that looked locked on Monday may wait on a location permit, a costume fit, or a cast hold by Thursday. The living boneyard is where those pending strips
Locking Day 1 is a promise to the company. After that promise, every strip move needs change control—not silent drags on the board that never reach the call sheet. Version the daybreak, name what changed
A banner day—high page count, many cast, stacked sets—looks efficient on paper and brutal on the floor if nobody had time to prep. Pacing those days on the stripboard is an AD skill: you still
Stunt days, VFX plate days, and specialty-equipment blocks are not footnotes. They change call times, unit structure, insurance notes, and how much else you can schedule that day. If they hide inside a normal dialogue
Pickup days are not leftovers you shove at the end of the board. They are intentional strips that protect picture lock, cover ADR-adjacent inserts, and give the AD a clean path from principal photography into

A shooting schedule without a linked shot list is half a plan. Assistant directors know the risk: a daybreak that fits pages on paper but overruns once camera setups, lenses, and VFX plates are counted.
Episodic television rarely lives in a single script file. A season means multiple episodes, overlapping cast, shared locations, and directors who rotate week to week. When each episode sits in its own spreadsheet or PDF
A shooting schedule only works if everyone reads the same story. Cast needs Day Out of Days (DOOD) clarity. Department heads skim one-liners. ADs park unshot scenes in a boneyard instead of deleting them. When
The call sheet is where the shooting schedule becomes a human plan: who arrives when, where to park, what scenes are up, and which departments prepare first. Too often that document is rebuilt by hand—copying
Every producer knows the hidden cost of a poorly ordered shoot: company moves. Each time cast, crew, and trucks relocate between locations in a single day, you burn hours that never appear on screen. Traditional
