Exaggeration—a term familiar to each one of us here. Many situations occur in our daily life where we become speechless or short of words. Generally, in such cases, we use some “exaggerated statements,” which sort of solve our problem and even create an interest within the audience. Hyperbole is a solution for the same, but what exactly is this Hyperbole?

Hyperbole between character & audience

We have all heard these statements: “I’ve told you 100 times, I’m the king of the world, I’m at the top of the world, cry me a river,” etc. So if you have heard this, you are familiar with the concept of Hyperbole. Through extreme exaggeration, Hyperbole is used to draw emphasis toward a particular character or scene. It’s a literary device. The exaggeration needs to be so strong that the readers and audience will be curious to know what’s coming up.

The exaggeration makes the scene quite enjoyable, intense or emotional, depending on the tone of the scene and the character. It should make readers feel that the scene is exaggerated, which has turned their interest switch on. Using Hyperbole is not a great deal, but using it during the correct time and for a suitable character matters a lot because that will be the turning point of that scene.

Hyperboles are used when the exact meaning of the statement is not considered, but one must consider the emotions which are being conveyed through that exaggeration.
Let’s go through the different uses of Hyperbole—the magical phrases that change the entire tone of the scene.

USES OF HYPERBOLE :

Hyperbole is widely used to make the script more interesting and to convey emotions to their audience via the channel of comedy .

Some of the significant uses are :

  • Comedic Delivery.

How Hyperbole used to "Describe a feeling".

The character’s dialogue and facial expression play an essential role in conveying the character’s feelings to the audience about how the character is feeling at that given instant time.
While conveying the feelings, the feelings must be depicted and presented correctly to absorb the feelings among the audience better. It takes a character closer to the audience by using hyperbole expressions in their dialogues.
Hyperbole is used to express incredible anxiety, sudden sadness, incredible joy, and also to describe some negative feelings such as short-temperedness, depression, and so on.

How can we use hyperbole to "Emphasize a point".

Emphasizing a point radiates a clear gesture of being fully confident about that point and even it radiated the positive vibe that  the person firmly believes in that statement.

Emphasizing a point strongly but, in an exaggerated way is the best thing which can be done while writing the script for the same.

Emphasis done by the character helps the character to be in the limelight for some duration of time frame. And when the characters of scripts are in limelight then that’s the best opportunity for the character to convey their emotions, feelings and thoughts about that topic through a hyperbole – an exaggeration.

"Comedic Delivery" with the help of Hyperbole.

Using Hyperbole to express your creativity, especially in terms of comedy, can be a fantastic vehicle for comedy. Even the most famous comedy films made till now have a hefty number of exaggerated dialogues, which helps the people to connect easily with the character, and it’s even helpful for the character as it brings the character into the limelight of exaggeration.

Comedic delivery is an important and most crucial part of the script as the comedy lightens up the mood of the exhausted audience, so there is no need for extra efforts to work out other components for that script.

While using Hyperbole, it’s important to keep in mind that the exaggerations should be generalised and shouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings or sentiments. Because if the character is generalized, even people will react to it humorously, and there would probably be a deeper connection between the character and the audience.
